How to use a.i. to create a art file worthy logo
AI has become an incredible tool for creating logos. We’ve seen some really cool concepts come out of it lately.
Unfortunately… we’ve also seen some absolute nightmares when those logos get sent over to be turned into a patch or shirt decal.
A logo that looks great on a computer screen doesn’t always translate well to custom headwear or apparel. When you shrink that design down to a 1.5–2 inch patch on the front of a hat, things can get messy fast.
Suddenly the design has:
five different fonts
a sunset gradient
a detailed mountain range
and a deer the size of a sesame seed
That might look great on your laptop, but it becomes extremely difficult (or impossible) to turn into a leather patch or woven patch.
At Looper Lids, we specialize in custom headwear and apparel, so we’re always looking for ways to make the process easier for our customers. If you’re using AI to create your logo, we put together a simple prompt that helps generate artwork that actually works for patch production.
The Looper Lids AI Logo Prompt
Copy and paste the prompt below into your favorite AI design tool when generating a logo for hats or apparel.
Create a SIMPLE logo that will be used for leather patches and woven patches on hats.
The logo must be optimized for small patch production (approximately 1.5–2 inches wide).
Design requirements:
• Bold, simple shapes
• Thick lines and clear edges (no thin lines)
• Maximum 2–3 colors
• No gradients, shadows, or shading
• No tiny details
• High contrast
• Clean and readable at a small size
• Works inside a circular, oval, or rectangular patch
• Avoid very small text
Style:
Modern, clean, bold, and outdoors-inspired. Similar to logos used by golf brands, breweries, outdoor companies, or heritage workwear brands.
Production requirements:
• Design must work for laser-engraved leather patches and woven patches
• The smallest design element should still be visible when the logo is only 1.5 inches wide
• Avoid fine lines, detailed illustrations, or photo-style graphics
• The design should look good as a single-color stamp for leather patches
File requirements:
• Provide a VECTOR file (SVG, AI, or EPS)
• Also provide a high-resolution PNG with transparent background
• Include both a full-color version and a solid black version
Why Simple Logos Work Best for Hats
When it comes to custom headwear, simpler is almost always better.
Clean, bold designs tend to:
look better from a distance
stitch and engrave cleaner
age better over time
and most importantly… actually fit on a patch
If you look at many of the best logos used by golf brands, breweries, and outdoor companies, they’re often built around simple shapes, bold lettering, and limited colors.
That’s not a coincidence. Those designs translate well to real-world products.
Don’t Stress If Your Logo Isn’t Perfect
If you’ve already created a logo and you’re not sure whether it will work for hats or patches, don’t worry.
That’s what we’re here for.
At Looper Lids, we work with businesses, golf courses, events, and brands all the time to turn their ideas into custom headwear that people actually want to wear.
Sometimes that means making small tweaks to a logo. Sometimes it means simplifying a design so it works better on a patch.
Either way, we’re happy to help guide the process.
