The science of a high-converting landing page
"Huh? This isn't about golf or hats. Why are the Hat Caddies talking about landing pages?"
Fair question.
As we've continued to develop and deploy TapCap™ technology, we've found ourselves learning more and more about what makes a landing page effective. Our goal has always been to create as much value for our customers as possible, and that means understanding not just the hat itself, but what happens after someone taps it.
For those unfamiliar with TapCap™, let's back up a bit.
While looking for a better way for golfers to pay their caddies digitally, we discovered a way to use NFC technology (think tap-to-pay) inside a hat patch. When a smartphone taps the patch, it instantly launches a webpage—no app, no camera, and no QR code required.
What started as a solution for golf caddies quickly turned into something much bigger.
Today, our caddies are using TapCap™ hats that allow golfers to:
Pay their caddie through Venmo
Review tipping guidelines
Request that caddie for future rounds
Leave ratings and feedback
The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and the caddie hats have been a huge hit this season.
When we first developed TapCap™, our assumption was simple: the chip would take users directly to a customer's website.
That seemed logical.
But as we deployed more hats and analyzed how people interacted with them, we discovered something important:
100% of TapCap™ users are mobile users.
That may sound obvious, but it completely changes how the experience should be designed.
Unlike a traditional website visitor sitting at a desktop computer, TapCap™ users are typically:
Using their phone
Outdoors
Interacting quickly
Slightly distracted
Already interested in the brand they're engaging with
That realization led us down a path of studying landing pages, mobile user behavior, and customer interaction.
What we discovered is that while websites are excellent for building trust and providing information, they are often not the most effective tool for guiding immediate action on mobile devices.
That's where landing pages shine.
